Lunch Hour Church

Every day is holy at Pizza Ranch

Wednesdays in June at Noon at Champlin Pizza Ranch

Do you rock an instrument, a mixer, or a mic? Join the Lunch Hour Church music team by emailing production@createchurch.org. We rehearse during lunch hours too!

About Lunch Hour Church

Ya gotta eat. And you've been thinking about going back to church. Why not knock out both at the same time? We wondered the same thing.

Thanks to our friends at Pizza Ranch, we are pleased to offer this new church community experiment.

What's lunch hour church like? Well, we'll have some music, some discussion, some prayer... and some amazing Pizza Ranch food. It's a very relaxed and informal atmosphere, so come in whatever you've got on for work. We're kinda hoping it will look a little like a Village People music video.

Want to join the band or tech team? We rehearse during lunch hours too. E-mail production@createchurch.org.

No childcare available.

"Hold on, you can not have church on a day other than Saturday or Sunday, and definitely not at a Pizza Ranch!"

Okay, let's talk about that. In Romans 14, a weak person and strong person are compared. The weak person is convinced certain days and certain things are either uber holy or uber forbidden. In the new world order that Jesus brought, all days and all things are holy.

Note: When we abuse something holy by getting the amount wrong, the time wrong, or the relationship wrong, it's called "sin" (yikes!). Wednesdays are definitely the right time for great relationships with a totally righteous amount of delicious Pizza Ranch pizza.

Notes for June 8 Sunday Brunch Church

  1. What are not useful ways to live? What does it mean to be useful?
  2. What does it mean to love one another? How is loving connected to usefulness?
  3. A definition of big love: choosing the highest or best for God, others, and yourself.

Look for "useful" and "useless" things in the following passage:

My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did. Dear friends, I am not writing you a new command but an old one, which you have had since the beginning. This old command is the message you have heard. Yet I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in him and in you, because the darkness is passing and the true light is already shining. Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness. Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble. But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness. They do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them.
— 1 John 2:1-11
Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.

If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus.

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because he first loved us. Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.
— 1 John 4:7-21
This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.
— 1 John 5:2-5
And now, dear lady, I am not writing you a new command but one we have had from the beginning. I ask that we love one another. And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.
— 2 John 1:5-6
I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth. Dear friend, you are faithful in what you are doing for the brothers and sisters, even though they are strangers to you.
— 3 John 1:4-5
I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see. Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent. Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me. To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat down with my Father on his throne. Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”
— Revelation 3:15-22
