start something new with your neighbors

The whole law is fulfilled in one word: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
— Galatians 5:14

Is your neighborhood what it used to be?

The art of neighboring has increasingly become lost, hasn't it?  With the increasing advent of social media, busy schedules and our own tendency to be home bodies, we've lost that connection we experienced with our neighbors when we were young.

Gone are the days of community in our neighborhood. How do we stop pulling in the garage and shutting the door without talking to anyone?

friends in real life

We need friends – real life, close friends. "Social networks" abound, but the crushing crowd of updates, hashtags, likes, and comments don't cancel out our loneliness (source). In the search for connectedness, we surrender real opportunities for community to a flurry of digital interruptions (see phubbing).

Let's be neighbors again

It's time to be neighbors again. It's time to dial up the compassion and realize many of our neighbors are going through things worse than we are. Some are struggling in deep ways – and they could use a friend. A close friend.

Every problem is a relationship problem, and we have a relationship problem. Let's become neighbors again. We need a rebirth of community.

When it comes to knowing our neighbors in real life, it's going to take more than a simple wave as we drive by or lending that cup of sugar every once in a while. We'll need to jump in and invest in relationships right where we live. The places where we live are the places that God has planted us to make a difference and live on mission. You and I are called to be neighbors to those who live right next door.

The Bible has much to teach us when it comes to those who live next door to us. We are to connect and teach others right where we live. There's no better investment than choosing to develop relationships with our neighbors.

What does the Bible say about neighbors? A lot!

Don’t begin by traveling to some far-off place to convert unbelievers. And don’t try to be dramatic by tackling some public enemy. Go to the lost, confused people right here in the neighborhood. Tell them that the kingdom is here. Bring health to the sick. Raise the dead. Touch the untouchables. Kick out the demons. You have been treated generously, so live generously. Don’t think you have to put on a fund-raising campaign before you start. You don’t need a lot of equipment. You are the equipment, and all you need to keep that going is three meals a day. Travel light.  Matthew 10:5-10 // The Message

Getting started with your own neighborhood church

You can start changing the world around you one neighborhood at time. Here at Neighbors Church, our goal isn't to start one large church that all neighbors come to. We are passionate about helping you start a home church right in your neighborhood. We're all about empowering you to reach your neighbors and live out the Great Commission right where you live.

We know that process can feel big and overwhelming.  That's why we're here to help. We'll walk you through the process and share from our own experiences to help you connecting with your neighbors IRL and help them grow in faith.
